Skills Workshop: Managing the Communication
Challenges of Persons with Dementia

The purpose of this workshop is to train health care leaders how to train their direct care staff and caregiving family members in practical techniques to achieve better communication with persons who are living with dementia and promote safety and cooperation with care and interactions. The faculty’s unique approach to communication with this population focuses on making an “emotional connection” as the heart of compassionate, patient-centered care. The program will have two main parts:1) “Get Connected”: Therapeutic Communication Techniques for Patients with Dementia and
2) Experiential training in how to teach “Get Connected.
